ABOUT Doreen Spicer
Doreen Spicer is a native New Yorker and has been writing for television and film for over 12 years. In most recent achievements, Spicer developed and wrote the musically driven- film, Jump In! which became the highest rated movie ever on the Disney Channel. The film stars Keke Palmer (Akeelah and the Bee) and Corbin Bleu (High School Musical) and exposes the world-renowned sport of double-Dutch. Doreen had also proven her fresh perspective on the animated series, The Proud Family, where she co-developed and remained a supervising producer for fifty-two episodes. Spicer was later tapped by Disney to create yet another series in which she wrote and produced, Coqui Loco. This animated pilot featured Rosie Perez as a rambunctious Puerto Rican tree frog desperately seeking fame. Currently, Doreen has adapted and is producing her first feature film, which is an adaptation of the urban Latino novel, Forever My Lady, on Warner Books. She is also working with two musical acts, “Savvy” of Texas and “Lil Jordan” the 10 year-old golfer/rapper. Doreen is acquiring more children’s properties with musical components and is developing other projects under the auspices of her own company, Spicerack Productions, Inc.
Doreen’s career began when she was chosen to be a writer’s intern on the popular ABC sitcom, Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper, which led to a permanent position as a production assistant. Just a year later, Spicer entered the Writer’s Guild of America with her first writing credit on Fox’s, Martin. Doreen then continued to learn the art of production and honed her craft by taking on jobs as writer’s assistant on The Cosbys, The Jamie Foxx Show, and executive assistant on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Doreen finally landed a position as staff writer on the NBC sitcom, Built to Last.
Spicer is a graduate of the High School for the Performing Arts in New York and has earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in communications from Morgan State University. Doreen became interested in writing when she entered the well-respected Warner Bros. Television Writing Program at Morgan State University. Having established credits in all three areas, television, animation and film, Doreen Spicer is continuously developing a promising career in family entertainment.
